Overview
Elementary & Primary Schools
Orangeburg County School District's elementary and primary schools serve students in Pre-K through fifth grade. The S.C. Curriculum Standards and the Great Minds Curricula are the foundation of the instructional program. The Director of Elementary and Primary Schools supports the leaders at each elementary and primary school to ensure student achievement in grades 4K-5. Instructional monitoring in the areas of English Language Arts, mathematics, science, and social studies for grades 4K-5 results in continuous improvement initiatives for schools and staff.
Pre-K students are screened for developmental readiness in the spring and summer to determine placement in the district’s Pre-K classes. K through 2nd grade students are served in heterogeneous self-contained classrooms. Third, fourth, and fifth grade teachers provide specialized core content instruction in a self-contained or departmental setting. Instructional support programs at the elementary level include gifted and talented instruction and special education services. Students also receive weekly instruction in art, music, and physical education. Each school is staffed with highly qualified teachers, an assistant principal, a nurse, a guidance counselor, and grade level teaching assistants.
