Federal Programs
Overview
What We Do
The Office of Federal Programs manages several federal and state plans in collaboration with district personnel, campus administrators and teachers. Funding for these programs is authorized by the Every Student Succeeds Act from the federal government and at-risk funds from the state of South Carolina.
The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) is the latest reauthorization of the 1965 Elementary and Secondary Education Act and was approved by the U.S. Congress in December 2015. This law provides significant federal support for programs to serve students in kindergarten through 12th grade and replaces the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001.
In collaboration with administrators, facilitators and teachers, the Office of Federal Programs assists in organizing people, programs, materials, and resources to support and enhance student learning. District data and stakeholder input guide initiatives that meet specific requirements of the law as well as focus resources on district needs and goals.
Specific state supplemental program resources are managed in collaboration to maximize efforts for at-risk students, reading and literacy initiatives, enhancement activities, and professional development.
