MIDDLE SCHOOLS
Orangeburg County School District’s middle schools serve students in sixth through eighth grades. The South Carolina Curriculum Standards and the Great Minds Curriculum are the foundation for all core content courses. District Instructional Supervisors work with the faculty at each middle school to implement district curriculum guides in the four core content areas. Each middle school offers students a variety of opportunities to take elective courses in band, chorus, physical education, health, computers, Spanish, dance, and art. Parents should consult their zoned middle school for specific elective offerings.
Instructional support programs at the middle level include Edgenuity and other learning platforms to support literacy, numeracy and developing the whole child. Parents should consult their zoned school for specific support program offerings. Students in need of additional academic services are identified through a School Intervention Team (SIT) process. Students also have the opportunity to take Algebra 1 and English 1 for high school credits beginning in the eighth grade. Students qualify for these courses through a rubric score which looks at State Assessment performance in English and math, formative assessment performance (MAP) in English and math, and summative classroom performance (grades). Some schools provide Gifted and Talented services in a special class model for English and mathematics at each grade level.
HIGH SCHOOLS
Orangeburg County High Schools serve students in ninth through twelfth grade. Our district's high school instructional program provides students with fundamental skills to be ready for college or career. Teachers utilize the SC Curriculum Standards as the foundation of the high school instructional program as they provide instruction in the core content areas and elective courses in career clusters. Each high school has a Career and Technology Center within its zone area which students can attend, with various majors such as agriculture, architecture and construction, automotive technology, business management, finance, informational technology, education and training, engineering (Project Lead The Way), health science, hospitality and tourism, and human services to name a few. Students wishing to take an advanced course of study may take gifted and talented courses, honors courses, Advanced Placement courses, and dual credit courses.
Orangeburg County School District has a partnership with Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College. Students who need extra help should reach out to their guidance counselor or teacher for support.
