Mr. Brook

Hello and Welcome to my 2020-2021 6th grade Social Studies class.   I have had the pleasure teaching at Carver Edisto my home school for the past 4 years. I believe understanding the past is significant to living in the present and I am passionate about telling the stories of our past.

Office Hours

  • Fridays 10:00 to 10:45

Expectations

  • Our  class this year will meet on A or B days. Students ared expected to log into  Canvas and complete each module for the week. A module will include classwork, homework, and practice tests.  A quiz  or test  is given weekly to assess the students knowledge of weekly topics.

The focus for sixth grade social studies is to expand students’ understanding of history through the study of people and events before the last 400 years of world history. This is meant to give a better understanding of the world in which they live. This study focuses not only on the significance of geography in the development of the human story but also on the everyday lives, problems, and accomplishments of the people and their roles in developing social, economic, and political structures of life today. Projects and class assignments will be incorporated using technology with the understanding that research skills are an integral part of the Social Studies curriculum. Students will be shown a variety of clips from historical movies, all are edited for middle school history.
