Greetings Gator Family! My name is Joyce Smith and I am thrilled to be the art teacher for Lake Marion High School. I received a Bachelor's in Art Education from Claflin University in 2010 and a Master's of Education in Divergent Learning from Columbia College in 2019. While I have been a teacher for ten years, this is my third year teaching at Lake Marion High School.

Art is a discipline that can be taught, especially if you are open to learning. As an art teacher, I feel that it is my responsibility to facilitate learning and encourage my students to keep improving, developing, and challenging themselves in their continual artistic discovery.

In my classroom, students will learn about art concepts and techniques. They will learn how to manipulate the Elements of Art and Principles of Design, as well as use a variety of media to communicate ideas creatively. Students will also learn about art history, art movements, aesthetics, and art criticism.

I am excited about the great things that our students will accomplish this year. Qualities for success in my class are: a good attitude, respect for each other, good listening skills, creative problem-solving skills, and a sense of exploration and curiosity.
