OCSD’s Desiree Lewis Honored as WLTX News 19 Teacher of The Week

ORANGEBURG, S.C. – The Orangeburg County School District (OCSD) is proud to announce that Ms. Desiree Lewis, a second-grade teacher at Rivelon Elementary School, has been named the WLTX News 19 Teacher of the Week. This honor recognizes her unwavering commitment to her students' academic development and her dedication to our district.

Ms. Lewis is well-known for her collaborative efforts with literacy coaches across the district to enrich the learning environment for all students. Her students have made commendable progress in their reading performance under her guidance.

Demonstrating her excellence in teaching, Lewis has been recognized as the Orangeburg County School District Teacher of the Year twice. Her first recognition was in the 2011-2012 school year while teaching at Mellichamp Elementary School, and she received this distinguished award again for the 2021-2022 school year.

"Ms. Lewis is the embodiment of patience, kindness, and love for her students. She brings an extraordinary level of preparedness to her classroom, ensuring our students are receiving the best possible education. Her commitment is not just commendable, it is exemplary," said Dr. Rena Bowman, Principal at Rivelon Elementary.

OCSD is thrilled to have teachers like Lewis, who make immeasurable contributions to the growth and development of our students and the district at large.
