Orangeburg County School District Celebrates Students' Achievements

ORANGEBURG, S.C. – Orangeburg County School District (OCSD) celebrated the achievements of 54 students on October 17 at their annual Awards Banquet. Held at the Orangeburg County Library and Conference Center, the event recognized elementary, middle, and high school students who secured perfect scores on the SCREADY assessment and End of Course Exams.

The SCREADY assessment is a statewide evaluation in English Language Arts (ELA) and mathematics, which students in grades 3–8 undertake as per the directives of the Education Accountability Act. Concurrently, the EOCEP assessment functions as a statewide program for end-of-course tests focusing on gateway courses, encompassing units of credit in English/language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies.

The evening was filled with entertainment by splendid student performances. Specifically, two outstanding piano students from W.J. Clark Middle School took the stage: Kaori Jamison entranced attendees with her interpretation of Bach's "Air on G String," while Cameron Rivers captivated the audience with his rendition of Gershwin's "I've Got Rhythm."

The students and guests also had the privilege of hearing from Mrs. Latisha Walker, an esteemed Orangeburg County Councilwoman. Walker's words were both motivational and grounding. "It's imperative that you protect your minds and stay focused on your goals. Surround yourselves with people who are like-minded, who share your dedication to excellence, and who understand the importance of continuous growth," said Walker.

Closing the event on a high note, Superintendent Foster addressed the students with warmth and admiration, "In our pursuit, perfection might appear distant, but always remember, when we chase excellence, we inch closer to that perfection. You are not just perfect in your accolades, but also in your commitment and perseverance. I am deeply privileged to call each of you a student of the Orangeburg County School District."
