ORANGEBURG, S.C. – Orangeburg County School District is thrilled to announce that Maurice Middleton, a music teacher at William J. Clark Middle School, has been named the WLTX News 19 Teacher of the Week. This recognition spotlights his 17 years of dedication at Clark Middle School and his 21 years of overall service in the field of education.
Mr. Middleton, who specializes in teaching piano, has become an integral part of the school's music department. His passion for music and teaching is evident in every performance and recital his students participate in. His approach has not only built a deep appreciation for music among his students but has also enhanced their musical skills substantially.
“He is passionate about music and teaching, and this shines through in every recital and music program he directs. His commitment to excellence is evident and serves as an inspiration to both students and colleagues,” said Dr. Donyale Mosley, Principal of William J. Clark Middle School.
Mr. Middleton discovered his love for it in the 11th grade. He excels in playing the piano and singing but takes particular pride in his piano skills. His goal has always been to provide his students with opportunities he didn't have at their age. Outside of school, he has been the director of his church's music department for 25 years, further demonstrating his deep commitment to music and community.
In addition to his role as a teacher, Mr. Middleton serves as the department chair at Clark Middle School. His leadership has been instrumental in elevating the school's music program to new heights.
Dr. Shawn D. Foster, Superintendent of the Orangeburg County School District, commended Mr. Middleton, saying, “Mr. Middleton’s dedication to music education exemplifies the highest standards of teaching and leadership. His impact on students goes beyond music; he inspires them to strive for excellence in all areas of their lives.”
Mr. Middleton will be featured on the “Friends at 5” segment on January 30, 2024, on WLTX News 19. He firmly believes in the power of trying, often saying, "If you just try in anything that you do, you will be amazed at what the outcome could be."
