2021 Bridge Builder Excellence Award Semi-Finalists Announced
The South Carolina Football Hall of Fame Bridge Builder Excellence Program educates, empowers, and encourages students to be successful in their college, career, and life endeavors.
The program is designed to reward and encourage SC High School Football Players to exemplify excellence in the community, in the classroom and on the field, with criteria including classroom success (and a required minimum GPA of 3.2), football participation, and a demonstration of exemplary school, character, community, citizenship and leadership.
Last week, the 2021 award Semi-Finalists were announced, and it is indeed an honor to share with our board of trustees and the community tonight that one of our very own, Karrlen Waymyers, defensive end from Hunter-Kinard-Tyler High School, is among the elite list of just 27 student athletes named as semi-finalists in our state. Waymyers is also the 2020 Willie Jeffries Character Award Winner and the Region 3-A South Carolina High School League Defensive Lineman of the Year.
The top 10 finalists will be announced in the next couple of weeks and those student athletes will be invited to share their story with football legend, Levon Kirkland on the “Inside Blitz w/Levon Kirkland”: A Sports Leadership Podcast.
Additionally, the winner will be selected and invited to participate in the 2021 Bridge Builder Ceremony and Livestream on July 21st in Downtown Greenville.
I know that you will join me in congratulating Karrlen and wishing him the very best as he moves on to play for the South Carolina State Bulldogs next year, as well as the next level of this recognition.
