Current Assistant Principal of Howard Middle School has Been Named New Principal for 2022-2023 School Year

Phillip Mickles, Ed.S., has been named Principal of Robert E. Howard Middle School. Mickles, who currently serves as the Assistant Principal at Howard, will transition to his new role for the 2022-2023 school year.

With nearly 25 years of experience to South Carolina’s public schools, Mickles holds numerous degrees and certifications from the University of South Carolina, including a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education (1997), a Master’s in Educational Administration (2004), and an Educational Specialist Degree in Educational Administration (2006).

Mickles has been the Howard Assistant Principal for the past two years. Prior to this position, he served as a teacher at Marshall Elementary, a coach at North Middle/High, as well as a principal, assistant principal, teacher and coach in Lancaster, SC. He will assume his role as Howard’s Principal on July 1, 2022.

“I am ecstatic to take the torch from Dr. Hampton and continue the betterment of Robert E. Howard Middle School,” commented Mickles. “I appreciate the opportunity given to me by Dr. Foster and the Board of Trustees.”

Superintendent Dr. Shawn Foster is confident that Howard is in good hands. “Mr. Mickles brings a wealth of knowledge and experiences that will greatly benefit the students and teachers at Howard Middle School,” said Dr. Foster. “Specifically, his leadership, strategic thinking, and dedication make him the perfect fit for the job.”

Mr. Mickles is excited and honored to continue serving Howard at a higher level. “As Principal of Robert E. Howard, I will continue to be a transformational and servant leader.”
