Spotlight on Alumni for April is Melvin Felder, Jr.

ORANGEBURG COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT HONORS MR. MELVIN FELDER, JR. AS THE APRIL 2025 ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT RECIPIENT

The Orangeburg County School District proudly announces Mr. Melvin Felder, Jr. as the distinguished recipient of the April 2025 Alumni Spotlight Award. A native of Bowman, South Carolina, and a proud 2008 graduate of Bethune-Bowman High School, Mr. Felder exemplifies excellence in leadership, public service, and higher education.

Following his high school graduation, Mr. Felder attended Claflin University in Orangeburg, SC, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in accounting. Demonstrating an unwavering commitment to academic and professional growth, he obtained a Master of Science in Accounting in 2014 and a Master of Public Administration in 2017 from Strayer University in North Charleston, SC.

Mr. Felder is a Budget Analyst at South Carolina State University within the Division of Finance, Facilities, and Management. In his five years of service at SC State, he has been honored as the 2022 Staff Employee of the Year for his division and was selected for the prestigious National Emerging Leaders Program sponsored by the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO), which he completed in July 2022.

Prior to his tenure at SC State, Mr. Felder faithfully served the Town of Bowman as Assistant Town Clerk and Town Clerk for a decade, from 2009 to 2019, leaving a lasting legacy of dedication and civic engagement.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Mr. Felder is an active member of Pineville United Methodist Church in Bowman, SC, where he serves as the Chairman of Finance. He is the beloved son of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin (Terry) Felder, Sr., and a devoted brother and uncle to his five siblings and eight nieces and nephews.

A man of many interests, Mr. Felder, enjoys spending time with his family and friends, crafting unique party favors, and exploring new destinations through travel.

"Mr. Melvin Felder, Jr. is a shining example of how OCSD graduates make a lasting impact. His dedication to education, public service, and leadership is a powerful inspiration to our students. We are honored to celebrate his achievements and grateful for the positive influence he brings to our schools, Foster shared.”
