Orangeburg County School District (OCSD) proudly spotlights Shondra F. Abraham, a 1989 graduate of Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School, whose distinguished career in higher education leadership reflects excellence, service, and longstanding commitment to the Orangeburg community.
Abraham currently serves as Chief of Staff in the Office of the President at South Carolina State University, where she provides executive-level leadership and strategic support to the president and the university. In this role, she serves as a primary liaison between the President’s Office, cabinet leadership, academic units, staff, and community constituencies. As a trusted advisor, she helps shape institutional strategy and sets the tone for communications and collaboration across the university.
“As a proud graduate of Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School, it is especially meaningful to now serve at South Carolina State University,” Abraham said. “OCSD helped shape who I am, and carrying those lessons forward every day is both an honor and a responsibility.”
A respected veteran leader among college and university presidents and chiefs of staff, Abraham is frequently sought out for her advice, counsel, and institutional knowledge, with expertise rooted in nearly three decades of service in higher education administration. Her ability to navigate complex organizations with professionalism, discretion, and clarity has made her a trusted voice within higher education circles.
Abraham earned a Bachelor of Arts in Professional English, Cum Laude, from South Carolina State University in 1997 and later completed a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing from the University of Phoenix in 2005. Her academic preparation reflects a strong foundation in communication, leadership, and organizational strategy.
Her professional journey at South Carolina State University began in 1996 and includes service in several key roles, including special assistant to the president, executive assistant to the president, interim director of public relations, assistant director of public relations, and public relations specialist. In recognition of her impact and leadership, she was named Employee of the Year for the Division of Institutional Advancement in 2002.
“Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School gave me more than an education, it gave me confidence, discipline, and a belief that my voice mattered,” Abraham added. “The foundation I received there prepared me to lead, serve, and represent my community with pride every step of the way.”
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Abraham is a proud wife and mother, roles she considers central to her identity and values. She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, and enjoys writing, traveling, and home design and décor, passions that reflect her creativity, balance, and attention to detail, qualities that inform her leadership.
