Dr. Shawn D. Foster, OCSD Superintendent

Orangeburg County School District (OCSD) proudly shares that Superintendent Dr. Shawn D. Foster served as the keynote speaker for the Teacher Induction Ceremony at South Carolina State University on Monday, May 4, 2026.

The ceremony marked a meaningful milestone for aspiring educators entering the profession, and Dr. Foster delivered a powerful message centered on purpose, responsibility, and the lasting impact of teaching.

During his address, Dr. Foster offered words of encouragement that underscored the value of each new educator. He reminded them that their work matters deeply and that their influence will extend far beyond the classroom. He shared that their impact will be so profound that long after their careers have ended, they will still be remembered, spoken about at dinner tables by former students whose lives were shaped by their guidance, care, and commitment.

Dr. Foster also provided a thoughtful reflection on the evolution of education, chronicling how the responsibilities of educators have expanded from the early 1900s to the present day. He acknowledged that while the expectations placed on teachers have grown significantly over time, so too has their opportunity to make an even greater difference in the lives of students and communities.

“The responsibility is great, but the impact you will have is even greater,” Dr. Foster shared. “You have the ability to shape lives in ways that will echo far beyond your classrooms and far beyond your years in this profession.”

A highly respected educational leader, Dr. Foster has earned statewide recognition for his leadership, including being named the 2026 Superintendent of the Year by the South Carolina Association of School Administrators. Under his leadership, OCSD has advanced student achievement, expanded opportunities, and strengthened community trust through intentional transparency and strategic engagement.

Dr. Foster concluded his remarks by wishing the new educators success in their journey and warmly welcomed those who have chosen Orangeburg County School District as their first teaching home. He emphasized the district’s commitment to supporting and developing educators as they begin their careers.

OCSD celebrates this opportunity to support and inspire the next generation of educators and remains committed to ensuring that every student is served by prepared and purpose-driven teachers.
