Orangeburg County School District (OCSD) proudly announces the appointment of Michael Sutton as the new Athletics Director at Edisto High School, bringing with him more than two decades of experience in education and athletics experience.

Sutton currently serves at Carver-Edisto Middle School and has built a distinguished career spanning over 25 years in education, including 18 years in business education and technology instruction. Throughout his career, he has demonstrated a strong commitment to student engagement, innovation, and the development of well-rounded student leaders both in and beyond the classroom.

His professional background includes experience across multiple school levels and districts, where he has taught courses ranging from game design and coding to marketing and video production. Sutton is known for developing rigorous, standards-based curriculum and fostering meaningful relationships with students, staff, and families.

“Mr. Sutton brings a unique blend of instructional expertise, leadership, and a deep understanding of student engagement to this role,” said Superintendent Dr. Shawn D. Foster.  “We are confident that under his leadership, Edisto High School’s athletic programs will continue to thrive and serve as a source of pride for the school and the broader community.”

Edisto High School Principal Dr. Kemeka Johnson expressed strong enthusiasm about Sutton’s appointment and the impact he will have on the school community.

“Michael Sutton is a dedicated educator and leader who understands the power of athletics to shape student success,” said Dr. Johnson. “His commitment to excellence, relationship-building, and student development makes him the ideal choice to lead our athletic programs. We are excited about the vision and energy he brings to Edisto High School.”

In addition to his teaching experience, Sutton holds certifications in business education, marketing, computer technology, and middle-level language arts. He has also completed advanced coursework through the South Carolina Athletic Administrators Association (SCAAA) and National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA), further preparing him for athletic leadership at the highest level.

As Athletics Director, Sutton will oversee all athletic programs at Edisto High School, focusing on student-athlete development, program integrity, and community engagement. His vision includes strengthening athletic excellence while ensuring that student-athletes embody the values of discipline, teamwork, and academic achievement.

“Edisto High School has a proud tradition of excellence, and I am honored to serve in this role,” said Sutton. “I look forward to working alongside our coaches, student-athletes, and community to build a program that reflects our commitment to excellence in athletics, academics, and character.”
