As the 2024–2025 academic year concludes and summer begins, Orangeburg County School District (OCSD) is thrilled to launch its 2025 Summer School Programs officially. With excitement and purpose, students are returning to classrooms this week for a summer season filled with enriched learning, exploration, and opportunity.
Designed to reinforce academic foundations while inspiring personal growth, this year's summer offerings include a comprehensive array of academic courses, enrichment activities, and college- and career-readiness experiences. The program places a strong emphasis on STEM, literacy, and social-emotional learning. Students will also benefit from educational excursions and hands-on experiences that expand their worldview and deepen classroom learning.
“Our summer learning programs serve as a vital bridge, helping students maintain academic momentum while discovering new passions,” said Dr. Shawn D. Foster, Superintendent of Orangeburg County School District. “We are committed to ensuring that every student has access to engaging, high-quality learning opportunities year-round. Summer school is not just about catching up, it’s about moving forward.”
OCSD’s summer programs are being hosted at multiple locations throughout the district, ensuring convenient access for families. One highlight includes the 21st Century Community Learning Center at Mellichamp Elementary, where students will travel to Myrtle Beach to visit the aquarium, an opportunity that integrates STEM engagement with real-world exploration.
“We’re taking our students beyond the classroom to broaden their perspective,” said Audrey Bonnette, Site Coordinator at Mellichamp Elementary. “Our trip to the aquarium will allow students to explore science and the environment in an engaging way. More than that, we want to show our students how to create their own opportunities by exposing them to new experiences.”
Parents and guardians are encouraged to remain actively involved throughout the summer session by communicating regularly with teachers and program staff. While the structure may feel different from the traditional school year, the district’s mission remains the same: to ensure all students discover and develop their person, purpose, and platform.
