OCSD Board Member Ruby B. Edwards

Orangeburg County School District (OCSD) proudly announces that Board Member Ruby G. Edwards has achieved Level Six, the highest distinction awarded through the South Carolina School Boards Association’s (SCSBA) Boardsmanship Institute.

This distinguished recognition reflects Mrs. Edwards’ exceptional dedication to professional development, effective governance, and continuous learning in support of public education. Level Six status represents a sustained commitment to advanced training focused on leadership, policy, ethics, advocacy, and student-centered decision-making.

Mrs. Edwards was formally recognized today during the Annual Conference of the South Carolina School Boards Association, where board members from across South Carolina were honored for their achievements in boardsmanship and governance excellence.

A former educator, Mrs. Edwards brings a deeply informed perspective to board service, grounded in firsthand experience and a lifelong commitment to student success. Her leadership and dedication have also been demonstrated through her service as School Board Chair for two terms, where she helped guide governance, policy direction, and strategic priorities for the district.

“Mrs. Edwards’ achievement of Level Six is a powerful reflection of her dedication, leadership, and unwavering commitment to the children and families of Orangeburg County School District,” said Dr. Debora Brunson, Board Chair. “Her investment in continuous learning strengthens our Board’s governance and reinforces our shared mission to ensure every student has access to opportunity and success.”

Throughout her tenure, Ruby Edwards has been a steadfast advocate for students, families, and the Orangeburg community. Her leadership is defined not only by sound governance but by meaningful service that extends into the lives of those she represents.

Among her most impactful efforts is the “Christmas in District 6” initiative, a program rooted in compassion and community spirit. Through this initiative, Mrs. Edwards has helped provide holiday support, resources, and encouragement to families, fostering connection and joy while reflecting OCSD’s commitment to supporting the whole child.

“Serving this community is both an honor and a responsibility I deeply value,” said Mrs. Edwards. “This recognition represents my belief that effective leadership and heartfelt service go hand in hand.”

The SCSBA Boardsmanship Institute is a nationally recognized professional development program designed to equip school board members with the knowledge and skills necessary to lead with vision, accountability, and integrity.

OCSD celebrates Mrs. Edwards’ accomplishment as a reflection of the district’s enduring commitment to leadership excellence and student success.
