Orangeburg County School District (OCSD) hosted its annual art gallery show, “Reflections,” on Thursday, November 13, at 5 p.m. at the OCSD District Office. Each piece is a unique reflection of the artist’s personal journey, which offers a window into the many faces and stories that make up our community.

“Art gives our students the chance to share who they are and what they see in the world around them,” said Johnnie Smith, Coordinator for Relation Arts. “Through ‘Reflections,’ we celebrate not only their artistic talents but also the courage it takes to tell their stories through creative expression.”

The gallery featured a vibrant collection of student artwork from across the district, showcasing a wide range of styles, techniques, and perspectives. Each piece captured the imagination, individuality, and emotion of OCSD’s talented young artists, a testament to the district’s commitment to fostering creativity and artistic growth.

“Our students are remarkable thinkers and creators,” said Dr. Shawn D. Foster, Superintendent of Orangeburg County School District. “Events like ‘Reflections’ remind us that education is not only about academics, it’s about inspiring students to see beauty, meaning, and possibility in the world around them.”

Arts, Academics, Athletics, and Activities are OCSD’s mission to inspire and nurture our students. At OCSD, the arts play a vital role in encouraging creativity, self-expression, and critical thinking, skills that enhance learning across all subjects. Through visual arts, music, theater, and design, students learn to see the world from new perspectives and to communicate their ideas in powerful ways.
